Today's review features the Pyle Pro PPHP28BA. Pyle manufactures a variety of Karaoke style PA speakers, and most of the information provided in this article also applies to them.
I often browse through the warehouse deals section at Amazon. It's a bad idea because I tend to purchase many items that I don't really need. This Pyle speaker is a good example. I have no use for a second PA system, but I could not resist since the PPHP28BA was listed at less than half its regular price.
Even all full price, this speaker would be a tempting option. It comes with every feature you can imagine, and for those that have a good singing voice—I do not—Pyle has even supplied a wireless microphone.
Throughout this review, I will be comparing the PPHP28BA with my very capable LyxPro 100W PA speaker.
The Pyle Pro PPHP28BA weighs 23.55 pounds and is encased within black, heavy-duty ABS. It is 26.5 inches high, 12.5 inches wide, and 9 inches deep. A pair of wheels and two well-positioned handles ensure the portability of this device.
This PA speaker produces 400W peak power. That works out to a continuous output of about 200W RMS.
Located behind a solid and attractive metal grill are two eight-inch woofers and two piezo horn one-inch tweeters. A variety of colored LEDs combine to produce an attractive light show that is guaranteed to enhance your Friday night Karaoke party.
This device is Bluetooth capable and includes an FM radio. It can also play MP3 files recorded onto either an SD card or a USB flash drive. These drives may be used to record music and voices as they are played over the speaker.
A microphone, guitar, auxiliary, and a pair of RCA inputs are incorporated into the speaker's back panel. An RCA output and knobs allowing the adjustment of bass, treble, mic echo, and volume levels are also present.

Sound Around Inc trademarks Pyle Pro.
Although Amazon had recertified this system, the rechargeable battery was not adequately secured and failed to provide power. Perhaps the battery had become dislodged and disconnected during shipping. It is also possible that the inspector missed this problem or felt—correctly—that the purchaser, due to the speaker's low price, would accept the lack of battery backup.
I tried to disassemble the speaker cabinet and inspect the battery but, unfortunately, could not get to it. This battery is not user-replaceable.
Ease of Use
Inputs and controls are well identified. The Pyle PA system connects quickly to Bluetooth devices, and every one of its many inputs functions correctly.
While not of professional quality, the included wireless microphone performed well and was fun to play with. I plugged in a wired and powered Boya lavalier microphone. It accurately reproduced my voice, although I had to back several feet away to avoid feedback. A microphone can be used while playing music.
I added an MP3 file to both an SD card and a USB flash drive. As soon as I plugged either of these drives into the Pyle PA speaker's proper slot, it took priority and began to play.
This device is equipped with the same remote control that shipped with my LyxPro PA speaker. The remote works adequately, provided it is held within a few feet of the speaker.
Amplifier and Speaker Tests
The sound output is full and rich at low to medium volume levels, outperforming my LyxPro system. Bass, treble, and midrange tones are effectively reproduced.
Unfortunately, the amplifier is leaky, producing and amplifying unwanted sounds. As the volume rises to 50 percent, I can hear a low-pitched hum over both woofers, and a series of repetitive high-pitched beeps emit from the tweeters. If I am playing classical music with quiet passages, this becomes noticeable when the volume reaches 60 percent. When listening to country or rock music, the background noise is less noticeable, and a volume level of 70 percent can be reached before the sound quality becomes unacceptable. At higher volume levels, the LyxPro outperforms the Pyle PA speaker.
A variety of brightly colored LEDs flash on and off while this speaker is in operation. This display is attractive; however, I do wish Pyle had included a switch allowing these lights to be switched off when not required.
The output of this speaker can be recorded onto a USB flash drive or an SD card. Although the operation of this function appears to be simple, I could not get it to work.
Because I purchased this speaker as a used product from Amazon, I did not qualify for support from Pyle. I contacted them anyway and received a reply noting that they were examining the problem and would get back to me.
The next day, Pyle Support provided a couple of suggestions. I followed their advice and, within minutes, the problem was solved and I was able to record. After-sales support from this company is good.
The Pyle Pro PPHP28BA is a feature-packed PA system with outstanding flexibility and good after-sales support. Unfortunately, quality control appears to fall below acceptable standards. This product is not recommended
