ChatGPT's Website Has Been Struggling With Heavy Usage

Say the word ChatGPT and almost everybody nowadays knows what you are talking about. This powerful chatbot has been growing exponentially and its associated heavy usage has caused a variety of problems for users.

System crashes, errors and problems logging in are often reported, but perhaps one of the most annoying problems is the infamous "Access Denied, Error Code 1020."

Forum posts, videos and loads of articles have been created with solutions to this problem. Suggested solutions may vary greatly, covering a great depth of redundant, colorful and sometimes even drastic fixes, including:

  • Ensuring you have typed you password correctly
  • Switching to a different browser
  • Restarting your computer
  • Downloading a new browser you have never heard about before
  • Borrowing a different computer
  • Turning off your VPN
  • Clear your cache
  • Moving to a different state (OK just kidding)

Despite the vast array of solutions, sadly many users still experience problems. This may evoke deeper searching, watching hours of videos promising solutions only to rehash the same tips over and over leading to a frustrating, vicious cycle.

Some sources blame the loads of heavy traffic. Heavy traffic to a website can certainly cause it to crash, especially if the website is not designed to handle a sudden large numbers of visitors or lacks sufficient resources (e.g., bandwidth, server capacity) to support the traffic.

So what is causing the infamous Access Denied, Error Code 1020? In this article, I will share what I think may be the problem, and how I finally (after two weeks!) was able to log in.

Can a VPN Cause Problems Logging in to ChatGPT?

Using a virtual private network (VPN) can sometimes interfere with logging into websites. This can happen if the VPN is blocking or redirecting the connection, or if the website you are trying to access is blocked by the VPN.

Many ChatGPT users who have getting the Access Denied Error Code1020 have been suspecting all along that their VPN must be causing the problem.

This has prompted them to implement a variety of changes, such as:

  • Disabling the VPN and connecting to the website without it.
  • Checking to see if the VPN is experiencing any connectivity issues.
  • Contacting their VPN providers for support or assistance.

Several of these solutions make sense but, in most cases, still don't solve the problem. They didn't for me at least.

  1. I logged into My Norton Antivirus
  2. I used the drop down menu next to Secure VPN
  3. I then selected VPN region
  4. I selected Italy, but you can try any other country.

Why Would Switching to a Different VPN Help You Log In?

Switching to a different VPN might help you log in to a website like ChatGPT for a variety of reasons.

  • The first VPN you selected was experiencing connectivity issues and this could have caused problems with your ability to log in. Switching to a different VPN may help if the issue is with the VPN itself.
  • The first VPN you selected was blocking or redirecting the connection. Some VPNs may block or redirect connections to certain websites, which can prevent you from accessing a particular site. If this is the case, switching to a different VPN may help you log in to the website.
  • The first VPN was not properly configured. This could have also caused problems with your ability to log in to websites. Switching to a different VPN may help if the issue is with the VPN's configuration.
  • The website could have been blocking your first VPN. Some websites may block VPN connections or only allow connections from certain VPNs. If this is the case, switching to a different VPN may help you log in to the website.

It is important to note that switching to a different VPN may not always solve the problem, and there could be other factors at play that are preventing you from logging in to the website.

If you continue to have difficulty logging in after switching to a different VPN, you may want to try troubleshooting the issue or reaching out to the website's support team for further assistance.

I Even Asked ChatGPT What the Problem Was, But It Had No Clue!
